I am thinking to start with Topic 1 - to hit on the number sense and place value as well as tie in SUMS unit 5, which covers benchmark numbers. I want to focus more on hands-on activities. Then I am going to focus mainly on SUMS activities from Units 1, 3 and 8 covering multiplication facts and division. Students need to know both equally well. From there I will move into Fractions and Decimals (SUMS unit 6) and then hit Sums 4 and 7 which will cover area and symmetry as well as making 2 dimensional shapes from three dimensional shapes and vice versa. The textbook is going to become my supplement not what I am directly teaching from. Data will be covered throughout the curriculum (Science and math).
There are no specific projects planned at this point. Although I am going to work toward more cooperative groups and then work with small groups of students on specific skills they may be struggling in.
Tests will be performance based with no multiple choice and they will need to show their work, as well as be able to explain how to solve or how they reached particular solutions
